Rose Lavelle scores in Gotham debut for 1
HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — Rose Lavelle, in her first appearance for Gotham, scored seven minutes into stoppage time for a 1-1 draw with Racing Louisville on Sunday in the National Women’s Soccer League.
After a stalemate in regulation, rookie Reilyn Turner’s goal gave Louisville (1-0-6) the lead earlier in stoppage time. Racing was coming off their first victory last weekend against Utah after opening the season with five straight draws.
Gotham (1-2-3), the defending NWSL champions, were winless in their previous three matches while dealing with a spate of injuries.
Coach Juan Carlos Amoros shook up his lineup a bit, with a starting front line with Lynn Williams, Esther and Crystal Dunn. Esther, who played for Spain’s winning team in last year’s Women’s World Cup, scored the team’s two goals going into the match.
Lavelle, acquired as a free agent in the offseason, made her debut for Gotham in the 74th minute after being sidelined for the start of the season with a lower-leg injury.
Racing was among just three unbeaten teams in the league.
